teamLab Will Light up Japan's Kairakuen Garden With Luminous Installations

Renowned digital and experiential art collective teamLab recently announced its plans to take over Japan’s historic Kairakuen Garden as part of a large-scale outdoor art project. The garden and its 3,000 plum blossom trees will be transformed into an interactive art space that responds to the presence of visitors. [Opinion] '살아 있다'는 사실을 아름답게 보여주는 전시 [시각예술]

사실 미디어 아트에 대한 인식이 그리 좋지 않았다. 전시가 움직이는 이미지와 영상으로 쉽게 만들어질 수 없다는 생각이 강하게 자리하고 있었기 때문이다. 기존에 있던 회화나 조각 같은 작품을 진정한 전시의 형태로 여겼기에, 너무나도 쉽게 하나의 ‘전시’가 되어 관람객을 끌어모으는 모습에 반감이 있었던 것 같다. 그럼에도 teamLab: LIFE를 보았던 이유는 인생샷을 건질 수 있다는 말에 관람료를 비싸게 받는, 오로지 돈을 벌기 위한 전시가 아니라 관람을 통해 우리에게 작지만 커다란 울림을 주었기 때문이다. teamLab Permanently Installs Real-Time Artwork of Flowers in NYC

As they’re busy preparing for their immersive installations at the emerging Superblue Miami Experiential Art Space, the talented troupe of new media artists at teamLab have mounted a new permanent public artwork in New York City’s One Vanderbilt. The work entitled Continuous Life and Death at the Now of Eternity II, Grand Central Terminal features striking visuals of flowers that “are born, bloom, wither, and die all with the flow of real time,” described teamLab in a statement.
