The Okusu Tree in Takeo is the seventh largest tree in Japan and is more than 3,000 years old. It is the sacred tree of Takeo Shrine that was built in the Nara Period (735 C.E.).
In the late Edo Period, when the garden was created (1845 C.E.), it was hypothesized that a path from the garden to the sacred tree existed inside the forest of Mifuneyama Rakuen. A road made of stones was discovered, only the entrance was maintained. The Floating Tree exists near this entrance to the path to the sacred tree.
