teamLab: Digitized Usa Shrine

Usa Shrine stands in the northern part of Oita Prefecture, on the Kunishin Peninsula at the foot of the mountain range. Out of the 40,000-odd shrines dedicated to the Hachiman Gods, this is the main shrine.

The grounds have been designated a National Historic Site, and the main shrine itself a National Treasure.

This exhibition is a part of teamLab’s art project Digitized City. The concept behind the project is that non-material digital art can turn a city into art without physically altering it.

In teamLab: Digitized Usa Shrine, Floating, Resonating Spheres and Resonating Trees are on display. The forest surrounding the grounds and the path leading to the shrine are transformed into an interactive digital art space that changes due to the presence of people.

작품

Floating, Resonating Spheres

Spheres of light float in the space、they move on their own, shining brightly, then disappearing—as if they are softly breathing. When the spheres of light are touched by a person or receive an impact, the color of their light changes, and they emit a musical tone unique to their new color. They then resonate that color and tone to the spheres around them, changing to the same color and emitting the same tone, resulting in a chain reaction.

Resonating Trees

The trees shine brightly. The light of each tree is autonomous, blinking as if breathing slowly.
When people pass close to the trees, the light changes color, and a tone specific to that color resonates out. The light of the tree is transmitted to the surrounding trees one by one, continuously emitting the same tone. 
If light approaches from the trees in the distance, it signifies the presence of people there, making people more aware of the existence of others in the same space.

* Parking lots avaiable (JPY 400).
* Operating hours different only on October 27: 19:00 – 22:00.
* Shuttle Taxi (Shared Car) operates until 22:30 only on October 27.
* Admission will be granted based on crowd size. Due to time limitations, there may be cases where visitors who come to the exhibit are unable to enter. Please be forewarned.
* No Smoking.
* No reentry is admitted.

宇佐神宮が光のデジタルアート空間に

チームラボが宇佐神宮の参道と森を人々の存在によって変化するインタラクティブな光のデジタルアート空間を演出する。「浮遊する、呼応する球体」と「呼応する木々」を展示。浮遊する光の球体は人が叩くなどの衝撃を受けると光の色が変化、色特有の音色を響かせ周りの球体も連続的に呼応する。ライトアップされた参道沿いの木々人が近くを通ると色が変化し音色を響かせながら、両隣と対岸の木に伝播する。（Excerpt from the text）
