The World Heritage Site of the Tadasu Forest at Shimogamo Shrine.

teamLab’s Digitized Nature art project uses non-material digital technology to transform nature into art without having a physical impact on it.

Tadasu Forest has been turned into an art space with the installations Resonating Forest and Autonomous Resonating Life - Tadasu Forest at Shimogamo Shrine, Floating, Resonating Spheres - Shimogamo Shrine, and others.

Walk, Walk, Walk - Tadasu Forest at Shimogamo Shrine

A group of anonymous and diverse figures walk along the Izumigawa River as it flows through Tadasu Forest.
People can stay with these figures or leave them, and watch as they continue.
The Zen expression “Hoho kore dojo” says every step is the place to learn. The figures of the artwork walk endlessly while confronting new situations. Walking after the figures or confronting new figures one after another, people also make choices along their own path.
The artwork is not a pre-recorded image that is played back: it is created by a computer program that continuously renders the work in real time. The interaction between people and the installation causes continuous change in the artwork: previous visual states can never be replicated, and will never reoccur. The picture at this moment can never be seen again.

Floating, Resonating Spheres - Shimogamo Shrine

Spheres of light float in the space within the Sakura Gate of Shimogamo Shrine. They move on their own, shining brightly, then disappearing—as if they are softly breathing. When the spheres of light are touched by a person or receive an impact, the color of their light changes, and they emit a musical tone unique to their new color. They can also resonate with the spheres around them, changing to the same color and emitting the same tone, creating a chain reaction.

The color of the trees near the spheres can also resonate in the same manner. The light from the trees resonates with that of the trees along the walkway beyond Sakura Gate; they, too, will change color and emit tones. The light from the trees along the walkway transmits the light of the Sakura Gate's trees beyond the gate, resonating with the nearby spheres. The spheres and the trees along the walkway can also resonate with each other beyond the gate.

As visitors move beyond the gate, they will become more aware of the other people and animals with which they share the space.

Resonating Forest and Autonomous Resonating Life - Tadasu Forest at Shimogamo Shrine

The ovoids of light, placed in the Tadasu Forest of the Shimogamo Shrine World Heritage site, shine brightly together with the trees of the forest. The light of the ovoids and the light of the trees are autonomous: they shine brightly and then fade slowly, as if breathing.
When an ovoid is pushed, the color of its light changes, and it emits a sound tone specific to that color. The light resonates out radially to the ovoids and trees nearby. The sound tone resonates out continuously in the same way as the light, spreading throughout the ovoids and trees. The resonating color and tone also spreads to the spheres of light that are in the garden of Shimogamo Shrine. The light of these spheres resonates continuously out past the shrine’s gate to the trees beyond.
When a light resonates from the far end of the path, it signifies the presence of people or forest animals. Perhaps people will become more aware of the existence of other living things in the same space.

Autonomous Resonating Life on the Water - Mitarashi Pond at Shimogamo Shrine

The objects of light standing on the surface of Mitarashi Pond are autonomous: they shine brightly and then fade as if slowly breathing.
When an object is pushed by people or is blown by the wind and tilts, the color of its light changes, and it emits a sound town specific to that color. The light resonates out radially to the objects nearby. The sound tone resonates out continuously in the same way as the light, spreading throughout the objects.

Forest of Autonomous Resonating Life

The densely packed, standing ovoids of light are autonomous. When an ovoid is pushed over by people moving through or blown down by the wind, it rises back up as the color of its light changes and emits a tone specific to that color. The surrounding ovoids respond one after another, continuously changing to the same color and emitting the same tone.

When the wind is not blowing and the people nearby are not interacting with the ovoids, their lights begin to blink slowly.

By Hankyu Line: Walk 5 min from Kawaramachi Station to Keihan Gion Shijo Station, take the train to Demachiyanagi Station, then walk another 12 min

By JR Line: Take the Karasuma Line from Kyoto Station to Kuramaguchi Station then walk, or take the train to Kita Oji Station, then change to City Bus.

By Bus: Take City Bus from Kyoto Station, Kawaramachi Station, or Kita Oji Station.

تيم لاب

"تيم لاب" هو عبارة عن مجموعة فنيّة عالمية (تأسست عام 2001)، يتم التعاون فيها بهدف التعمّق في نقاط الالتقاء بين الفن والعلوم والتكنولوجيا والعالم الطبيعي. فعبر الأعمال الفنيّة، تهدف مجموعة من الخبراء ذوي الاختصاصات المختلفة، بمن فيهم فنانين ومبرمجين ومهندسين، وأخصائي رسوم متحركة، وعلماء رياضيات ومهندسين معماريين، إلى استكشاف العلاقة بين الذات والعالم وأشكال جديدة من الإدراك.

وفي محاولة إلى فهم العالم حولهم، يسعى الناس إلى فصله إلى وحدات مستقلة يتصوّرون حدودًا في ما بينها. ولكن "تيم لاب" يسعى إلى تجاوز هذه الحدود التي تحدّ رؤيتنا ونظرتنا إلى العالم وإلى العلاقة بين الذات والعالم واستمرارية الزمن. فكل شيء قائم في استمرارية بلا حدود، في استمرارية مستدامة وهشّة وخارقة في آن واحد.
