AYABIE 『Ryusei』 MV
TeamLab produced the music video and CD jacket for the the Visual Kei (Visual Style) band AYABIE's new single, "Ryusei," released on Aug. 24, 2011.
"Ryusei", with lyrics like "I brought you who fit a yukata so well on a path by the river with fireworks in the sky" is an oriental and dramatic sound that has a theme of summer love. In the music video the music is expressed through the motif of lotus flowers blooming in the moonlight (*1). The scenes of the lotus fade away as if on a journey, liberated from both time and space.
Additionally, the video uses expressions based on the decorative art of Kirikane(*2) from the Asuka period, as well as utilizing silk textures in the background; recreating expressions and materials from ancient times in a psychedelic and vivid manner in a 3-D space using modern technology.
The impressive LED surface that appears in the music video was also used in the CD jacket. It was based on Jakuchu's style.
*1) This motif is based on the "ICONO-NARASIA" which was made in 2010 as a memorial image commemorating 1300th anniversary of the transfer of the royal court to Nara-Heijo. "ICONO-NARASIA" was supervised by editor Seigo MATSUOKA.
*2)Kirigane:
A decorative technique introduced to Japan in the Asuka Period. Uses gold and silver leaves cut long and narrow to create magnificently intricate designs for Buddhist pictures and statues. The statues of the four devas in the main temple of Horyuji temple were created using this technique in the Asuka period.
The lyrics and melody of "Ryusei", the song for which we created the music video, strongly express AYABIE's world view. The first time I listened to "Ryusei", the following image came to my mind. It was the opening scene of lotus flowers blooming in the moonlight. I feel as though the rest of this video grew from there all by itself. When I met AYABIE for the first time, all members of them were full of individuality, which made me want to depict the member's various world view in our own style.
