Giant Camphor Tree of Kawago

This tree is over 3,000 years old and is the 5th largest tree in Japan. It has a height of 25m, its trunk has a circumference of 21m, and its branches spread 26m from east to west and 33m from north to south.

It is said that Gyoki, a famous Buddhist priest, visited this land and carved a life-sized statue of Kannon into a portion of this giant camphor tree.


It has been designated as a natural monument of Japan.
