Worlds Unleashed and then Connecting - Arita Ware

teamLab, 2015, Interactive Digital Installation, Endless, Sound: Hideaki Takahashi

Arita ware has four hundred years of history behind it, and for those four hundred years, it can be said that Arita ware has embodied and encompassed the world of beauty envisioned by its creators. It is through Arita ware that we believe this world of beauty has been brought to the world at large.

In a time almost completely lacking in what we today call "media"—in an age where the world was almost completely unconnected—we believe that Arita ware long served as a medium that bridged the gaps, bringing the beautiful scenery of Japan to the rest of the world.

The beautiful worlds of each age captured and embodied by Arita ware are now once again unleashed; the Arita ware paints a picture of worlds that have made connections and continued to grow across 400 years of time and space. And now, these connections, these ever-expanding worlds will continue their journey into the future.

As a person approaches the Arita ware plates lined up against the large wall, the worlds contained within the Arita ware are released and expand into the surrounding space. The world released from each Arita ware piece affects the others, creating a larger, unified world.
